Komuso Breathwork Expert: What can breathwork do?

a landscape

I’d like to say one thing first that liberates many of my clients.

You are not an anxious person. You are experiencing an anxious moment.

Breathing better can become complicated quickly. But I can get you started with a few quick and practical techniques that will help you calm your nervous system and begin to think more clearly.

Who am I?

My name is Marcus Blacker. Before I started my journey with breathwork, I was living in London, an Oxford-educated lawyer, practicing at a large law firm. I was fairly successful. I had all the pieces in place. I should have been content. I should have been at peace. But I wasn’t.

Fast forward: I live and work in Egypt. I have more than 15 years of breathwork experience under my belt. My passion is supporting clients in letting go of the layers of restriction and resistance that bind their breath and freedom of being.

My embodied practice and presence combines the art and science of breathwork and coaching to create a powerful pathway to integration, with the breath acting as a bridge between body, mind, heart (emotions), spirit and relationships (connections).

I believe that when you breathe freely and fully, you are able to feel freely and fully, which empowers you to live freely and fully.

Who are you?

If you are anything like my clients and students, you are dealing with a range of symptoms such as general anxiety, sleeplessness, or low energy levels. Maybe you are experiencing high levels of stress, shortness of breath, or often worried about something that might happen. And your intuition is telling you breathing might be a significant factor.

First thing I want you to know is that you are not alone.

So many of my clients are experiencing overwhelming levels of anxiety and stress, and struggling with feeling disconnected from life, from themselves, and from their loved ones.

Why are we here?

In short, to help you understand how your breath can help you feel better. Right now, this very moment. And long term.

I will show you how to use scientifically-proven techniques that will help you breathe better, think better, and feel better.

I will guide you through the teachings and instruction as if you were in one of my classes. You will be getting an in-depth education in breathwork that is practical and easy to apply to your daily routine.

After this program, my hope is that you feel better first and foremost. And that you are confident in the tools you have developed. And that you believe you can conquer your anxious moments, and take control.

What’s in the free breathing course?

Currently, we have three courses coming up. We’ll send out an email and SMS when each one is live, so be sure to sign up for notification from Komuso.

Topics include:

  • Breath as the essential building block of healthy humans.
  • Breathe awareness: what is it and how to increase it.
  • Diaphragmatic breathing: why it’s important and how to do it.
  • Nasal breathing: why it’s important and how to do it.

From here, we’ll continue to build out this course. So stay tuned.

How to feel better right now.

Here’s two of my favorite techniques. One for calming the body, one for energizing the body.

ONE: 4-7-8 Technique

Inhale for 4 seconds. Hold for 7 seconds. Exhale for 8 seconds.

This will switch your body’s stress response off. It can help you increase calm when you feel anxiety ramping up, and it can help you fall asleep faster.

TWO: Double Breathing Technique for a quick hit of energy.

Feeling sluggish? Don’t want to rely on coffee?

sniff, sniff, haa, haa.

  • Inhale two quick, short bursts of air in through the nose (“sniff, sniff”).
  • Exhale two quick, short bursts of air out the mouth (“haa”, “haa”).

Try this quick technique for a burst of energy and increased focus.

How the Shift can help.

The secret to unlocking the calming effect of the breath is in the slow exhale.

When you extend your exhale, which is what the Shift was invented and designed to do, you flip your body’s stress switch off, and activate your body’s rest and relax response.

Spend just five minutes slowing down your exhale with the Shift, and you’ll feel the stress and anxiety melt away.
